Richard Hodgson
Alumnus of the Year
Richard S. Hodgson, a native of Breckenridge, Minnesota, attended NDSSS in 1942-43 and edited both The Dakota Scientist and a humor publication, The Wildcat’s Whistle. He also served on the staff of the Agawasie yearbook and The Prairie Schooner. He returned to NDSSS after five years of service with the Marine Corps and was given the assignment of developing a public relations program for the college and the Office of Alumni Relations. He also taught courses in journalism and advertising and was the faculty coordinator of all school publications. Mr. Hodgson assisted in the establishment of the program of Practical Nursing, the first health-related program to be offered at NDSSS, by convincing his mother, a former County Health Nurse, to head up the program. Richard Hodgson’s family has set up the Ruth Sargeant Hodgson Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Their generosity has allowed the college to establish a Reference Library at the Allied Health Center in her name and provide over 70 scholarships to Nursing Students attending NDSCS.
Richard was the 1998 Alumnus of the Year.
